| PCC 1.1.689.51 Release |
This download was updated on 8 July 2010
Service Alert:
We've discovered a defect in PCC 1.0.687.48 and 1.1.689.51 which can cause data loss. Data loss can occur in a situation where you are taking multiple cines back-to-back. It is a memory problem and is also dependent upon how much memory you have in your PC as well as which camera you are using.
If you loop through the process of Capture-->Trigger-->(Play/Save/Reject)-->Capture-->Click OK-->Trigger-->(Play/Save/Reject)-->Capture-->Click OK-->Trigger--> ... many times, you may experience this defect. In our testing, the problem may occur between 10 or 40 loops, depending upon free memory available in the PC.
To prevent this problem, you should quit PCC and restart it after several times through this loop. To be safe, you should probably quit and restart after every 5-6 times.
If you do not require use of PCC (to use Image-Based Auto-Trigger or Canon EOS lens mounts) then we recommend you run the latest version of the legacy Phantom Application that was installed with PCC.
We apologize for any inconvenience. A new revision of PCC that fixes this problem and adds new functionality is currently under test and will be released soon.
This installer will install PCC as well as the latest version of the legacy Phantom Application (version 689). The legacy Phantom application as well as all relevant DLLs in the Phantom folder on your computer will be replaced. So, before running this installer, you might want to make a backup of your Phantom folder. While we hope you will immediately start using PCC, if you have any problems, you can use Phantom 689 as a back up. Please provide feedback via the PCC Forum in the PhantomZone at www.visionresearch.com/PhantomZone.
PCC is required to take advantage of several new features in Phantom cameras including Image-Based Auto-Trigger and the new Canon EOS lens mount. This version of PCC (or the companion version of the legacy application) is also required if you are using the newer, slimmer CineMag II.
There is a thorough help system available, just navigate to the "Help" menu selection.
We recommend that the computer you use have a Pentium class microprocessor running 1.7GHz or higher. The software will install on the following operating systems:
- Windows 7 - Please be aware that you MUST be in administrator mode in order to install or use this software.
- Vista Ultimate Edition
- Vista Enterprise Edition
- Vista Business Edition
- Windows XP Tablet Edition
- Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3
- Windows 2000, Service Pack 4
We also recommend you have 4GB of memory and at least 80GB of disk space.
A more powerful computer and fast disk drive will deliver faster display and playback speeds as well as shorter save and download times.
Warning: This version of software has only been fully tested with the firmware versions shown in the table below. It will work with these or later versions. If you choose to use the software with an untested version, please be sure to provide feedback about any problems you have. Just send an email to support@visionresearch.com. We will update this table as we continue testing.
To check the firmware version of a camera, run your existing version of the Phantom software, connect to and select the camera of interest, go to "Help --> About" in the Phantom software. If you would like to upgrade your firmware, please contact VRI Technical Support.

Download Now| Firmware Update v2.0 for Phantom RCU |
[This update was posted 24 August 2010]
Performing a Phantom RCU Firmware update
1. Download the firmware update from the Vision Research web site.
2. Extract the two files contained in the "zipped" directory and copy them to your computer desktop. One will be called "rcu.fw" and the other "rcu_upgrade". There should be no file extension on "rcu_upgrade".
3. Insert a FAT or FAT32 formatted USB memory stick into the computer/laptop, then
4. Copy the two files to the USB memory stick. NOTE Upon completion of the upgrade process, the "rcu_upgrade" file will be deleted from the USB memory stick. Therefore, if you need to upgrade multiple Remote Control Units you must copy this file from your desktop to the USB memory stick for each Remote Control Unit being upgraded.
5. Ensure the Remote Control Unit is powered off.
6. Remove the USB memory stick from computer/laptop then
7. Insert it into the USB connector of the Remote Control Unit.
8. Apply power to the Remote Control Unit.
RESULT: The Remote Control Unit performs its power up routine using the new firmware stored in on the USB memory stick. The Home Menu Display Screen should now be displayed on the Remote Control Unit. During the upgrade process the RCU LED will light in a yellow color. When the process is complete it will return to blue.
9. Verify that firmware update has been successful. Navigate to the Firmware Display Screen, by gently pressing on the Setup>Tools>Firmware buttons.
