Vision Research Introduces External Mechanical Shutter

Vision Research's "newer" v-Series cameras based on the award-winning v12.1 architecture -- the v210, v310, v710, v640 and v12.1 -- all have an internal mechanical shutter available (either standard or as an option) which allows a user to shade the sensor when doing a Current Session Reference (CSR) without the need to put a lens cap on the lens. This greatly improves the usability of the camera by not requiring this manual step, and ultimately improves image quality by making it easier to do a CSR. (A CSR is a session-specific "calibration" of the camera.)

We have now brought that feature to our "classic" v-Series cameras! We have introduced an external mechanical shutter that does the same thing for v5.2, v7.3, v9.1 and v10 cameras. (We hope to support older models, too, but need to do a bit more testing.)

Simply replace the existing F-mount on these cameras with a new mount that has a built-in shutter mechanism; replace your existing capture cable with a new break-out-box; connect the control cable from the break-out-box to the shutter; update your Phantom software -- and, you are good to go.

The new break-out-box that comes with the shutter mechanism will also make your life easier. It gives you access to ALL of the control signals on the v-Series capture connector. No more making custom cables to support your requirements. And, it has video out and battery in connections too!

The shutter comes in a field-installable kit. You get everything you need -- shutter mechanism, tools, shims, break-out-box, software, firmware, etc. So, you can install the shutter yourself for minimum camera down time. Or, if you prefer, for an additional fee, you can return your camera to Vision Research and we'll install and test the shutter for you.

VRI-EXTSHUTTER-F-MOUNT is the field-installable kit for $3,495.

VRI-EXTSHUTTER-F-MOUNT-UPG is the factory-installed version that requires the camera to be returned to Vision Research. It costs $4,995.
